My personal Starfield wish list is an expansion of the planetary base system: hiring NPCs to work there, producing resources from the planets you build, etc. Bases are useful, but not very fun. It's the part I was looking forward to the most, but it feels like a big step back from the base building system in Fallout 4.

I thought we'd have to wait for Bethesda to release a Creation Kit before seeing a major overhaul mod, but TG's Galactic Colonies Expanse mod looks and sounds pretty massive. modder Created by TankGirl444, the mod is described as an "immersive space colonization simulator" that lets you "land on any world and build your own empire. This includes lots of new buildings, plenty of farming and food options, and perhaps the most enticing chunks of restaurants.

Even better, you can generate passive income by creating a Chunks franchise in your colony. Make money with a Chunks sign. Me. Up.

Farming is a great feature of this mod, with over 40 new plants to tend and harvest. All food means new recipes, from quantum milkshakes to earth staples like burgers and fries. Other buildings include a giant "bio-dome" where you can construct a sci-fi greenhouse on any planet of your choice. If you've ever wished you could import trees to a barren planet, this is possible. With such a large colony, you will naturally want to protect it, so the mod includes craftable mechs, turrets, an "experimental anti-gravity cannon," and an anti-ship laser.

Everything looks incredibly cool, and some of the screenshots show impressive large bases with industrial farming operations and formidable defenses; I don't know if Bethesda plans to expand Starfield's base building system in the future, developers should first take a look at what TankGirl444 is doing.

TG's Galactic Colonies Expanse mod is currently in progress, with future features planned such as giving NPCs in the colonies desires such as hunger and thirst, and adding a terraforming system to alter the planet's atmosphere. Please stay tuned.
