This custom controller builder makes a form of the "mystical artifact" that appears in Baldur's Gate 3.

From the creators of the custom Fight Pad comes a completely different type of controller: Rudeism specializes in making custom controllers with a variety of utilities, and one of their latest projects is a mysterious A functioning replica of the artifact.

To put it together, they tinkered with it for hours on end, streaming it over and over again, and now it's almost like a working controller.

Each segment covered in Artefact runes is actually a button of Rudeism's design, and each took about three hours to print on a resin printer. Each of these buttons is connected to a handful of mechanical switches placed around the perimeter of the 3D printed shell, and each switch requires wiring to the main board, which connects the ESP development board, IO expander, and USB controller, carefully packed inside. A battery is also located inside, leaving little room for error.

After much trial and error, Rudeism succeeded in creating a very nicely crafted log controller with questionable maintenance access. Nevertheless, Rudeism made the artefact so that it could be put back together if necessary.

"This method is incredibly labor intensive and a bit annoying, but it is a way to guarantee that it can be taken apart again if needed," Rudeism said in the stream.

The controller is almost complete, but it turns out that the buttons are slightly too large and will need to be reprinted; according to Rudeism, it takes about three hours to make all the parts needed for the controller on a resin printer. The main body is a more painstaking process, taking about three days to complete both halves, so it is best to change the buttons instead.

One thing that is clear from watching the build progress is that it takes a lot of dedication to make something like this. There is a bit of a reason for this, because its effectiveness as a controller has not yet been proven. Frankly, it probably wouldn't be suitable for actually playing the game. But for fans of Baldur's Gate, it is certainly a controller that, like the "mystical artifact" itself, they are eager to get their hands on.
