No new seasons for "Battlefield 2042" as the next "Battlefield" film goes into full production.

"Battlefield 2042" will conclude this season, and EA has announced that while the shooter will continue to offer new events, challenges, and other updates, the bulk of the upcoming "Battlefield" work will be devoted to the next installment in the series, or perhaps game will be dedicated to the production of the game.

"Battlefield 2042" was famously panned by many upon its release, but after an extensive redesign campaign and multiple seasons, we declared last year that DICE had turned things around. (But despite the unpopular opinion, we also liked it from the start.)

"Battlefield 2042" promised four seasons when it launched, but it has now reached seven, all with new guns, maps, and gadgets added for free. Says Byron Beed, GM of Battlefield.

"We know this news is disappointing. But when we thought about what the future of the series would entail, it became clear that it was time to shift our resources and focus to fully dedicate ourselves to what comes next."

What comes next is not entirely known: EA calls it a "Battlefield world" where the multiplayer and single player experiences are "connected. Whether it will be one big game or multiple games, EA is putting a lot of development effort into this project. [Outside of DICE, teams from Criterion and Ripple Effect (formerly DICE LA) are working on the next Battlefield, and EA announced today that Philippe Ducharme and Roman Campos-Oriola, who led Motive's critically acclaimed "Dead Space" remake, will lead the new "Battlefield" team within the Montreal studio.

Motive is presumably working on the single-player portion of the upcoming Battlefield universe, similar to how he contributed to the Star Wars Battlefront 2 campaign in 2017.Ducharme and Campos-Oriola's " proven expertise in storytelling, immersive battles, and development on the Frostbite engine puts them in a unique position to help drive the vision for Battlefield," said Motive GM Patrick Klaus, adding that another team at the studio is working on the He also noted that another team at the studio is continuing development on the "Iron Man" game.

In 2021, EA handed over control of the "Battlefield" series to Respawn founder Vince Zampella, who continues to run the series. At the same time, a new studio was established in Seattle to work on a single-player "Battlefield" experience under the direction of "Halo" co-creator Marcus Leto. That studio closed earlier this year, and while the details of what happened are unclear, we do know that Leto did not part ways with EA on good terms.

Since it does not appear that EA has decided to back out of Battlefield, one has to wonder what happened. Especially since it doesn't seem that EA has decided to back out of Battlefield.

"'Battlefield 2042' is an important chapter in the series we all know and love, and your feedback has played an important role in helping us build this game into something special, while also laying the groundwork for the future," Beed wrote in a blog post.

"Battlefield is an experience defined as much by the passion of the community as it is by the team-driven tactics and explosive battles, and we look forward to the day when we can tell you more about what's coming next.

That day cannot come soon enough. During an investor conference call earlier this year, EA CFO Stuart Canfield said that a new Battlefield game is not in EA's 2025 fiscal year plans; EA's 2025 fiscal year has already begun and will end next March, so a Battlefield game in late 2025 The possibility of a new Battlefield game cannot be ruled out. However, given the time it takes to produce games these days, one cannot hold one's breath.
