Following the "Fallout" TV series on Amazon, "Fallout 4" will get a slew of new features, fixes, and content with a major "next generation" update coming on April 25.

The update was announced in 2022 as part of Bethesda's celebration of the 25th anniversary of Fallout's birth; 2023 faded into memory with no sign of an update, and was eventually pushed back to 2024: at the time, we thought Bethesda had decided that "Fallout" series and holding off on a parallel release in order to give "Fallout 4" a "Cyberpunk Edge Runners"-style sales boost, which is not exactly true, but it's close enough in my mind.

The update is primarily intended to bring Fallout 4 to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles with improved graphics and 60fps gameplay, but will also be available for older generation consoles, and PC.

The PC update adds support for widescreen and ultrawidescreen displays, updates several quests, fixes the Creation Kit, and adds many "stability, mods, and bug fixes" including Japanese and Chinese versions. In addition, "Fallout 4" will finally be Steam Deck certified and released on the Epic Games Store.

It will also feature new Enclave-themed Creation Club items, including new weapon and armor skins, Tesla Cannon, Hellfire and X-02 Power Armor, and Heavy Incinerator, as well as a new The quest "Echoes of the Past" will also be part of the update. The Enclave is a fascist paramilitary organization that appeared as a major antagonist in "Fallout 2" and played a major role in "Fallout 3," which you may remember suffered a major defeat at the hands of the Brotherhood of Steel.

There is also a new Makeshift Weapon Pack featuring a baseball launcher, nail gun, and piggy bank, as well as Halloween decorations for the settlement.

The "Fallout 4" update for next-gen consoles will be available on Steam, GOG, Microsoft Store, and Epic Games Store on April 25.
