WoW Classic's "Age of Discovery" Phase 3 Launches - Raising the Level 50 Cap, 54 New Runes, a 20-Person Raid, and an Unruly Emerald Dream

The WoW Classic "Season of Discovery" was chaotic, but overall an impressive experiment. While there were speed bumps in the struggle with old server technology and the design of world PvP, there was also a big-hearted atmosphere that is usually reserved for private servers and the like. Tanking Rogue, Healing Mage Spaghetti is hitting the wall at an unprecedented pace.

In case you didn't know, Season of Discovery takes the classic WoW framework, throws in a lot of spice to shake things up, and delivers content in a phase more akin to a Diablo 4 season.

Each season, the level bands get a little higher and runes (gear modification items that can only be unlocked by completing specific quests and tasks) are added. This time around, no less than six runes will be added to each class, for a total of 54 strange new flavors.

In this phase, Sunken Temple will be promoted to a 20-person raid. As we mentioned earlier this month, there will also be custom-made loot unique to Season of Discovery. A gun axe, if you will.

Sunken Temple has a lore connection to Green Dragonflight, so Emerald Dream is also on the chopping block. The Nightmare Incursion uses the portals to the Dream scattered throughout the WoW Classic to experience battles in "a realm steeped in corruption and populated by dragons, torrents, and other insanity-driven wretched souls."

Interestingly, these intrusions are available to players from level 25 to 50 and can be used to level up. In the tradition of the classics, there is also a lip grind. The Emerald Wardens faction grants you trinkets and armor with bonuses that will be discussed for some time on the WoW forums. They'll grant you one of their class runes, so you can start dreaming big.

As promised in February, Season 3 will also improve the joy of discovery, giving players from level 1 to 39 a 100% XP boost and players from 40 to 49 a 50% XP buff. The "Age of Discovery" is not inherently aware of the long road to 60 like the vanilla version of WoW. But if you want slow and steady progress, you can turn it off at the inn.

Phase 3 is up and running, so you can go slay imaginary dragons now.To access Season of Discovery, you must have an active subscription to your World of Warcraft account.Battle.net app to download Classic, create a character in the Season of Discovery realm, and you're ready to go.
