'Splinter Cell' fans are excited about the possibility of a remake update in June.

It's been more than two years since Ubisoft announced a full remake of the original Splinter Cell, and little has been heard since. But eager fans are hoping that the void will finally be filled at the next Ubisoft Forward showcase in June.

Ubisoft announced its next online showcase on April 3, promising new information about "updates and upcoming releases." But when Twitter user MauroNL3 pointed out that the Facebook header and profile picture for Ubisoft Toronto, the studio that produces the game, had changed just the day before to Sam Fisher's iconic glowing goggles, longtime Splinter Cell" fans were thrilled.

Indeed, the evidence is very thin, and unfortunately there is not much to back it up. Ubisoft did not even acknowledge the game's existence in its most recent earnings report. On the other hand, the company has said that it will reveal the "extent" of next year's lineup, which includes Assassin's Creed Red, Star Wars Outlaws, and The Division Resurgence, in its full-year results in May, suggesting that there is something secretive (or at least hinting at it).

Apart from that, there is the fact that it has been two and a half years since the "Splinter Cell" remake was announced. It is not a mere remaster: Ubisoft has stated that in 2022, "the story will be rewritten and updated for a modern audience," and the world itself has changed considerably since the first game debuted in 2002. It is therefore understandable that the remake process requires more than a direct visual overhaul with operational tweaks.

Still, it's been a long time coming, and fans (myself included) are eagerly awaiting news, even if it's just the usual "it's in progress" and perhaps some screen time. (Thin or not, there is a lot of excitement on Reddit about the possibility of Splinter Cell news on Ubisoft Forward.

I myself am not ready to get my hopes up just yet, but I am definitely keeping my fingers crossed; the Ubisoft Forward live stream will take place on June 10.
