Nine-Year-Old Rhythm Dungeon Crawler "Crypt of Necrodancer" Gets Hatsune Miku Crossover DLC

As reported by Gaming on Linux, a $2 Hatsune Miku DLC has been added to the rhythm-based dungeon crawler Crypt of the Necrodancer. The pack lets you play as the Vocaloid digital idol and comes with her own songs and special abilities.

Hatsune Miku adds her own twist to the gameplay of Crypt of the Necrodancer. Instead of digging straight through with a shovel like other characters, Hatsune Miku can dash through enemies and slam into walls. It's a type of gameplay that specializes in positioning and is reminiscent of "Into the Breach". Hatsune Miku can also charm enemies with her new "singing" ability. [Crypt of the NecroDancer's rhythm-based gameplay will also be refreshed with 15 Hatsune Miku songs. Baranovsky's new songs "Too Real" and "My One and Oni" round out a stellar track list that includes works by artists such as KIRA, Umetora, and Hylen. [Playful tie-ins to classic indie games like Commander Video from Bit Trip Runner appearing in Super Meat Boy or playing as Nidhogg's Fencer or a member of Towerfall in Samurai Gun recalls.

It's also nice to see Crypt of the NecroDancer getting support and new content a full nine years after its initial release, as NecroDancer Studio Brace Yourself Games was heavily affected by the industry layoff crisis, and last May half of the studio's staff was laid off. Despite this, the studio continues to work on Rift of the NecroDancer, a full sequel to NecroDancer.
