Free "Dragon's Dogma 2" Mod Gives RTX 40 Series Owners Long-Awaited Performance Boost

If you're struggling with low frame rates in Dragon's Dogma 2 and own an RTX 40 series graphics card, you might want to take a look at modder PureDark's latest work: adding DLSS and Frame Generation to Starfield. PureDark, best known for its "DLSS 3" mod, has turned its attention to speeding up Dragon's Dogma 2. A free mod available on PureDark's Patreon page allows you to toggle between DLSS 3 and Frame Generation.

Installing Dragon's Dogma 2 DLSS3 Enabler 01 should improve performance a bit (via Videogamer). A number of commenters have pointed out that the mod works well, and that it significantly improves performance, especially in a city that is notoriously difficult to run on any PC.

However, there is a possibility that the mod may cause the system to freeze; according to PureDark, "There have been reports of crashes and freezes in FG. However, many people still report no problems at all after hours of play; if you can't use FG, you'll have to wait for an official patch to fix it.

An intermediate fix for game freezes would be to limit the fps to 90 or 60.

That said, even with frame generation, some performance may still be stuck; Nick Evanson has been vigorously testing "Dragon's Dogma 2" over the past few weeks to get a handle on PC performance. What he has found is that while a powerful graphics card is certainly needed for smoother gameplay, the system also needs a good amount of processor power to successfully handle the busier parts of the game. Especially if the frame rate is low, frame generation will not perform as well as it should.

Nick was also one of the first to point out that the Frame Generation .dll file was already included in the original installation of Dragon's Dogma 2, which is the main reason PureDark released this mod for free." Since the mod only enables the game's own hidden DLSS3 implementation," they note on the download page, "it is now being released for free."

This modder's previous work requires a bit more heavy lifting in terms of coding and is generally kept behind their Patreon paywall.

Capcom has acknowledged issues with Dragon's Dogma 2's performance, especially with the current DLSS implementation. In a developer update, they mention: "We are currently working on a fix for the next patch. Additionally, we plan to add DLSS Frame Generation in a future title update."

and in a developer update it mentions.

While the current state of DLSS is a bit unstable in Capcom's latest title, it is still worth a try, especially if you are struggling to hit an acceptable frame rate in the game. However, DLSS does add a certain amount of fuzziness to the game, and it seems to need further tweaking to really make it look good; the MXBenchmarkPC video shows benchmark footage of the game running natively with mods enabled.
