Drinking mayonnaise in "Stardew Valley" may stress your girlfriend and NPCs, but it's actually a great strat.

Stardew Valley's 1.6 update has offered players strange new encounters and abilities, from Mr. Qi bumping off cheating players at the Summit to creepy mannequins trying to steal your clothes, the true horror of 1.6, " None of this is a big deal compared to the "mayonnaise-enjoying crowd.

During the run-up to 1.6, Eric Baron posted one patch note a day as a sort of countdown to the update's release. Most of them were relatively uninspiring, such as shortening the time to push a pet before going through it or giving spouses a seven-day honeymoon period after marriage. However, this tedious chain of events was broken when Barone tweeted, "I can now drink mayonnaise."

This was met with predictably abusive replies and congratulations. I could drink mayonnaise now, but why would I want to do that?

I'm not a speed runner, but I like to get the farm done as quickly as possible. This means that I have little energy at the end of the day or have to go to bed early so I don't pass out in the field. I usually just ate whatever root vegetables I could get my hands on or stocked up on field snacks that gave me 45 energy and 20 strength, but 1.6 taught me a new way to replenish my energy: mayonnaise.

It may sound horrible, but drinking mayonnaise gives you at least 50 energy and 22 health.

It's also fairly easy to get the resources needed to make mayo: starting at the Meadowlands farm, you immediately get two chickens and two eggs every day. After that, you need to build a mayonnaise machine, which requires a copper rod, an earth crystal, wood and stone, and farming level 2. LarkyLovesYou_, one of the mayonnaise speedrunners, shows how to build the machine in under 18 minutes.

Having a tub of mayo gives you plenty of energy to explore the mines and tend to your farm, so you can make the most of your time each day. But that doesn't mean your dishonest behavior will be accepted by the community. One player posted a video on Twitter showing how different characters would react if you drank mayonnaise in front of them. In just 20 seconds, the video manages to freak out Gus, Shane, Harvey, and Marnie. So, drinking mayonnaise is great for your farm, but if you value your reputation, it's probably best to drink it secretly and not near the villagers.
