Twitch Targets Butt Streams with New Rule Banning "Prolonged Focus on Intimate Body Parts"

You could imagine Twitch's latest rules update being read out by a depressed, barely present spokesperson.

"Twitch content is constantly evolving.

"Twitch's content is constantly evolving.

The behavior that has emerged is that of streaming games with your butt. In other words, using one's rear view as a green screen and superimposing the gameplay feed on it. (If you like streaming Fortnite with your butt or watching others stream Fortnite with their butts, you should start butt streaming immediately. On Friday, the site announced that "content that focuses for extended periods of time on intimate body parts will not be permitted."

Twitch has updated its sexual content guidelines with this new rule.

As Harvey outlined in a report last week, creating and enforcing fair and equitable rules for sexual content, including defining what is and is not "sexual," has been one of Twitch's biggest struggles.

One major innovation occurred when Twitch said streamers could only wear swimsuits if they were in a swimming-related situation; Twitch eventually added an official "Pools, Hot Tubs, and Beaches" category, which included "swimsuits, hot tubs, and beaches. No butts category was added at this time.

In anticipation of Friday's TOS change, butt streaming pioneer Morgpie is now streaming with a camera under a transparent chair."

"I hope everyone will stop complaining about butts and enjoy themselves until Friday," he said cheerfully in response to complaints in the chat.

As for what the new meta will look like after Friday, she said she wasn't sure. Whenever it comes, she is certain we will hear again that "content is always evolving."
