The next "Earthblade" from the makers of "Towerfall" and "Celeste" "will not be released in 2024.

Celeste and Towerfall studio Extremely OK Games' next game, "Earthblade," is not technically a delay, since it never had a release date in the first place. But instead, Extremely OK director Maddy Thorson said in a new blog post, "This game will not be released in 2024."

Development of "Earthblade" is ongoing and the studio is "still excited about working on it," Thorson wrote, but a release date is "a bit of a stretch" at this point.

"We know this is disappointing to many of you and we apologize. This may have been predictable, but still, it always sucks when the haters are right."

This is not the first time Earthblade has been half-delayed; in 2022, Thorson had hoped for a 2023 release "after some form of [private] beta testing, polishing, localization, and of course the dreaded console certification," but that didn't work either.

To move things forward, the studio hired a new designer, Kyle Pulver. He is a "veteran indie developer," a world champion in towerfall, and apparently a hidden character in the game.

"Kyle approached us right away with big ideas. But it was clear he wasn't here to derail the project. He identified our vision and the problems that were preventing the game from living up to it and worked with us to pinpoint solutions. In addition, his fresh eyes have given us all a new perspective."

Announced for 2021, Earthblade is an exploration action game set in a "seamless pixel-art world" and follows the adventures of a "mysterious doomed child" who returns from an unspecified absence to explore the ruins of Earth and piece together its fractured history. on Steam Available for pre-order, the trailer, which was shown at the 2022 Game Awards, can be viewed at:
