CD Projekt Red Says Development Team for Next "The Witcher" Will Increase to Over 400, "Not Just More of the Same as Before"

CD Projekt Red currently employs 627 developers, 403 of whom are dedicated to the development of Project Polaris, or "The Witcher 4," as was revealed during the 2023 financial results conference. (Meanwhile, the staff working on updates to "Cyberpunk 2077" has been reduced to 17, while the team for the sequel, known by the codename "Project Orion," has 47 people and is still in its early stages.

After the conference, CD Projekt Red co-CEO MichaƂ Nowakowski, while answering questions from shareholders, patiently explained that he could not reveal the release date of the next "Witcher" game on the conference call. He said, "Revealing a release date is basically part of our marketing plan, and it's not something we do here.

Nowakowski did, however, talk about the risks involved in CD Projekt Red's attempts to innovate in certain areas of its next game. He said, "Making a new game is always a creative risk. He called it "a pretty broad brushstroke," but he tried to explain what he meant by that. 'Basically, what I'm saying is don't just expect The Witcher 3 in new clothes,' he said. I mean, of course, we are building on the shoulders of what has been done before, on the learning of what has been done before, but we will be adding new things, new elements, new gameplay elements, new mechanics.

The Witcher's next game is currently in pre-production, but CD Projekt Red plans to begin full production in late 2024.
