Red Dead Redemption 2" unexpectedly supports HDR10+.

Personally, I take some comfort in knowing that somewhere in the world, people are still turning on "Red Dead Redemption 2" and stepping through the doors of time into a world that was driven by the actions of steely-eyed gunmen and, more importantly, steely-eyed horses. I remember. Even if I am under their spell, they still run along those dusty trails, pick wild carrots, and, if my experience is even remotely standard, get attacked by a big wildcat shortly afterwards. And now, according to the patch notes for the "Red Dead Redemption 2" title update that was released yesterday, we can enjoy that capture in all its HDR10+ glory. After all, is it really the Wild West without a full, vibrant range of contrast and brightness that provides vivid detail? In other words, I don't know. I've never actually visited the Wild West. But HDR10+ claims to offer it, and while I don't have an HDR monitor, I'm sure it looks nice. I'm picturing it now: a cowboy eating his evening meal of beans by the campfire, as we've seen so many times. Rockstar has barely acknowledged the cowboy business since it announced it would end its "massive addition" to Red Dead Online in 2022. Instead, the studio has been busy with the big reveal and eventual release of GTA 6. That is, unless you are the kind of person who wants new technology to be used to depict the solemn nobility of wide open plains and steady horses. Of course, I don't know anyone like that. Given that everyone is so excited about "GTA 6," they would have nothing to say about it. But if I did know someone like that, I would hope so. I'll save you the trouble of looking at what else is in the patch notes: the almost standard stuff: general performance and stability improvements. Interestingly, Red Dead Online voice chat is set to "off" by default in this patch. Probably a wise adjustment. The remaining cowboys would probably rather daydream than listen. And thankfully, the "problem of players not being able to summon horses" has been resolved. I can't think of a worse fate.
