A 240Hz Samsung gaming monitor that gives true meaning to the term "ultrawide" is now available for $800.

Technically, any gaming monitor with an aspect ratio of 21:9 or higher deserves the title of "ultrawide." However, few have earned that title, such as this Samsung Odyssey G9 DQHD.

This Samsung monitor, which is essentially two 1440p gaming monitors glued together, has a 49-inch, 240Hz, DisplayHDR 1000 panel. This monitor is a 49-inch gaming monitor with a 240Hz, DisplayHDR 1000 panel; Amazon has the price down to $800 today.

Just be sure to check the $100 coupon checkbox for the full discount. Otherwise, you, the clumsy one, will pay an additional $100 in taxes.

I fondly remember the first time I saw a 49-inch gaming monitor. It was also a Samsung and I was the envy of the entire office. I especially enjoyed the ability to separate the screen from one or two PCs as two separate inputs. This is a feature that has been carried over to this new model. At the time, however, these huge panels were not as much for gaming as they are now.

This Odyssey G9 has a refresh rate of 240 Hz and a very fast 1 ms response time. It can be difficult to maintain frames on all but the best graphics cards. Even below the maximum refresh rate, everything remains smooth and synchronized thanks to AMD FreeSync Premium Pro support.

The actual panel itself is a VA and appears to match in many ways the Samsung Odyssey G9 we previously reviewed with a VA panel. However, this model has a slightly different stand and a slightly higher standard brightness of 450 nits for SDR content. As reviewers noted with the previous model, this model should produce a similarly punchy SDR image.

If not this Samsung, perhaps something more sensible, but similarly discounted. We've found heaps of deals on gaming monitors to choose from if you're in the market. Some of them are as low as $90.
