PSA: Don't use the "load from last inn" option in Dragon's Dogma 2 unless you want to permanently lose your progress.

I was playing "Dragon's Dogma 2" and lost about 4 hours of play time. Dragon's Dogma 2 is pretty hardcore when it comes to saves and consequences, and you get the brunt of your own decisions.

It is not an RPG where you can really game save. For the most part, you can't reload an old save and redo something like you can in Skyrim. You can't even start a new game in "Dragon's Dogma 2" itself, so no matter what ugly beastie mug you choose, you're stuck with it until you change your look at the barber shop in the capital city of Varnworth, unless you take the elaborate step of deleting your save.

Here's some background:

If you play the game long enough, you'll notice that there are two ways to load a save from the main menu in Dragon's Dogma 2:

You don't often rest in an inn - especially since it costs 2,000 gold. However, the danger of innkeeper saves is always present. Because, and this is important, if you choose "load from last inn rest," it will delete your other saves.

The game gives you little messages, but honestly, it is very easy to click on them without reading them completely. Especially because it doesn't say "Warning" or contain any important information. If you then go back to the main menu and try to select "load from previous save," the save will disappear.

This is obviously a way to deter save fraud, but it seems a bit risky given that the innkeeper is seldom used. With this in mind, it may be better to take frequent breaks at the innkeeper so as not to lose too much progress. Also, saving at the inn could be used as a restart point for the day if one gets stuck or in a difficult situation. It could also be used as a way to test something if you are just after resting at the inn.

More than likely, the last save (auto or otherwise) would be loaded.

The moral of the story is to not choose "load from Last Inn Rest" unless the situation with the other save is completely irreparable and you need a backup option. Also, if it is an option that could potentially erase hours of progress, that information should be displayed or in the context of a warning that is not visible like a standard load save message.
