'We're Still Evolving': New Battle Royale for World of Warcraft is part of Blizzard's plan to "redefine what it means to be Warcraft."

In case you haven't been checking the latest World of Warcraft news, Plunderstorm is a battle royale mode in Blizzard's MMO. It requires a WoW subscription to play, but it's a different mode with different characters. And according to Warcraft General Manager John Hite, there may be more limited-time modes in the future.

"This is a first for us. So it's limited time," Hight told PC Gamer. 'We have other things we want to do that are similar to this, but with different gameplay. So I'm really looking forward to it.

So why now? He explains that it was a combination of the following.

"From an experimentation standpoint, being able to do this more or less outside of WoW makes it easier to get this out there because you don't have to connect to all the existing systems," says Hight. And Hight says: WoW is a great game, and there are so many games within the game. We want people to know that, to know that we are still evolving, that we are trying so many new things.

Plunderstorm may feel like it came out of nowhere, but Hight confirmed that this limited-time mode is part of World of Warcraft's strategic direction. We're sort of going back to our roots and redefining what Warcraft means, and when it started as an RTS, we were excited about the concept of 3D and immersive environments," he said. And that led us to build an MMO at a time when MMOs were still really, really new.

"We do it because we love making games and we love entertaining players. Players' tastes and the way they participate in the gaming community are changing. We don't have to do the same things we've always done. [Players] want to evolve and they want to remain a part of this community. That's one thing that's really clear."

While I don't think avid "World of Warcraft" players need to worry that their favorite MMO will soon become the next "Fortnite," they shouldn't rule out more modes coming to the "Warcraft" universe I think that the "Warcraft" world is a great place to start. How about "Pal World of Warcraft?
