Balance Patch Coming to 'Helldivers 2,' But 'Mostly Consists of Simple Status Changes,' Says Senior Game Designer

Helldivers 2 offers a variety of weapons and stratagems, but if you ask Super Earth patriots what their favorite weapons are, you're bound to get similar names: the SG-225 Breaker, the Orbital Laser, the Railgun, and even autocannons like Stratagems too.

I can tell you, at least from personal experience, that the railgun is busted in an interesting way. There is something satisfying about shooting off a Charger's ankle or doping up a Vile Titan from a safe distance. But if you want to win, you are in a tight spot.

Fortunately, Arrowhead will be making some tweaks; as spotted by Gamesradar, community manager Baskinator answered a fan asking about a potential balance patch with a simple statement: "We are updating working on it for the sake of it.

For more information, Senior Game Designer Alex Kravchenko was kind enough to talk to players about the gun tweaks on the game's Discord "The Armory" channel.

"Leaving over-performing weapons in the game without addressing them will drive players away from everyone else because they will always have to choose between fun and optimal," Kravchenko wrote. if Arrowhead nerfs a certain weapon, "even if the numbers are ...... even if they indicate that it is more balanced. People will (understandably) be unhappy with the change," they write in a separate message. Because they have found the most versatile tool, loved it and used it, and now it is being taken away."

Still, Kravchenko said, "The change will definitely come, we just didn't want to rush it. ...... He reassures players that "the power levels of some weapons are very different from what is generally expected.

This is consistent with Arrowhead Games CEO Johan Pilestedt's comments on Twitter, where he side-eyed that the community's beloved Breaker shotgun is actually not super good." You'd be surprised how many more kills the Breaker gets. On missions that end in success, Breaker doesn't have as many."

As for the content of the patch, Kravchenko also said on Discord earlier this week." The first balance patch consists mostly of simple status changes so as not to destabilize the codebase." While the numbers will be shuffled, it makes sense that Arrowhead would not be in a hurry to turn the dial, especially since they are just getting a handle on the server situation.
