After nine months of silence, the Multiversus Twitter account is back with an ominous message: it's real.

Believe it or not, Warner's Smash Bros.-style fighting game Multiversus may be making a comeback. More than eight months after going offline to "prepare for full operations," Multiversus' official Twitter account is starting to make a bit of a racket.

Multiversus has taken a strange path since its official launch in 2021: an open beta was launched in July 2022, and despite some early server issues (of course there were server issues), it was an immediate hit. Things moved fast from there: millions of people jumped on board, new characters were added, two entire seasons were rolled out, and we declared it "one of the best surprises of the year" at the end of 2022.

Strange, isn't it? Fighting game pro Molly Taylor called this "strange to say the least."

"Considering the $100 edition was sold less than a year ago, plus the two-season Battle Pass and premium currency, it seems somewhat cheeky to drag financially dedicated players down," she wrote. The MultiVersus reviewer gave the game a score of 78." Within months of its launch, it had achieved $100,000 in tournaments and appeared to have a large following.

Technically it has always been an open beta, but these days the term is almost meaningless: Activision traditionally holds an open beta weekend before every new "Call of Duty" game, for example, but this is really almost purely a promotional activity It is not. Be that as it may, a minimum 6-month shutdown for a game that had such a strong start is ...... Well, it's just bizarre. [To be honest, it was so abrupt and complete that I was half-convinced that "Multiversus" had disappeared for good. But apparently not: for the first time since June 2023, the Multiversus Twitter account started making noise.

Not much, but the account has since replied to numerous followers. Not much, but it has said, "It's real."

This Twitter activity is not the only sign that Multiversus is about to resume its activities. A few days ago, the Multiversus leak account "MultiverSusie" (via The Gamer) noticed that the game was back in the "Free Games" section of the Epic Games store, although the actual link was invalid. The listing has since been removed.

The impending comeback fits the "early 2024" timeline presented when "Multiversus" was taken offline, and also fits Warner's new strategy of focusing on free-to-play and live-service games rather than big-budget premium titles such as "Suicide Squad" It also fits Warner's new strategy of focusing on free-to-play and live-service games rather than big-budget premium productions like Suicide Squad. Assuming it does happen, it will be very interesting to see how the game has changed since we last saw it, and how players will react to its return. For now, the anticipation seems to be building, but it remains to be seen if the crowds will be as large as they were when "Multiversus" was first shown to the public.

At this time, Warner has not made any announcements regarding the developments of Multiversus.
