Some "Destiny 2" crossovers make sense. Mass Effect? Sure, it's a natural progression. The Witcher? Some of Geralt's fashions fit in nicely with the Space Knight aesthetic. Assassin's Creed is a bit of a stretch, but hunters and capes would be. But "Ghostbusters" is ...... I honestly don't understand where this came from, but yeah, it's there.

The "Destiny 2" and "Ghostbusters" mashup was revealed today on the Destiny Twitter account:

Courtesy of Sony Pictures, it's "a collection of in-game items inspired by Ghostbusters It is: Frozen Empire includes a Slimer Guardian Ghost, a new Garaka-inspired Sparrow, and an Ecto-1-themed ship. Garaka is the villain from the next Ghostbusters film, Frozen Empire.

Those who purchase this set or the individual items will also get a free "Bungee Rewards Slimer Ghost Shell Paper Craft Mask". Sorry, no pictures of that.

Notably, there is no sort of new armor, which is usually the centerpiece of such crossovers. This is because, after years of wearing increasingly complicated (and strange-looking) suits of high-tech armor, it would be fun to zipper up a simple pair of coveralls before facing humanity's deadliest enemies. It may not be thematically appropriate, but frankly, I think that ship has sailed. Also, there are no ghostly shaders present, which might have been tempting.

Pricing for this set has not been revealed at this time, but a release date is known. It will be released on March 19, three days before the theatrical release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. It also explains why this inexplicable crossover occurs: Sony distributes the film, and Sony owns Bungie. Sony distributes the film and Sony owns Bungie. As my dear grandfather used to say, just because it doesn't make sense doesn't mean there is no reason for it.
