As Warner Bros. suits began blaming "Suicide Squad" for everything but the weather, the price of the newly released game was almost cut in half.

Rocksteady's "Suicide Squad: Take on the Justice League" was released in early February, and while its long development time and multiple delays have kept it from being the disaster some had predicted, it has so far failed to set the world on fire. While much of the criticism has focused on the live service component of the game, Morgan has found that the endgame is essentially the best part.

At launch, Rocksteady promised weekly developer updates, and its commitment to such regular public communication may be commendable. The latest developer update is notable for its paucity of content.

That may be because "we at Rocksteady are working hard to get the game in top shape" for the launch of Season 1, the next chance for the game to gain momentum with the introduction of the Joker as a new playable character. Other things we can expect include "new alternate worlds to explore, an arsenal of new weapons and equipment, new missions, and more." All of this is free content for game owners.

The post acknowledges that players are still experiencing some technical issues, stating "We hear your frustration and appreciate your patience," and directs players to the Known Issues page, which lists various workarounds.

This page is actually more interesting than the update itself, listing the various problems players may be experiencing and workarounds while waiting for the appropriate fix. Even if in some cases the workaround is the classic IT solution of "rebooting," it is a good idea to make something like this transparent. It is also good to know that if a gear slot is locked, all you have to do is chat to Penguin and do a little crafting.

Perhaps the most important point of this update is its end. The same discount will apply to the regular version until March 21. With a little over a month since its release, this is a bad sign for a game that has spent more than eight years in development, and unfortunately, it looks like Warner Bros. suits have put the toe in their own baby.

Rocksteady has long-term plans to support Suicide Squad, with an offline mode among the first year's promises (while a Mr. Freeze playable through Brainiac's voice line also appears to have been leaked). But given Warner Bros.' well-known ruthlessness toward underperforming products, this already looks like an uphill struggle and should really spark excitement and interest soon. Suicide Squad will be available on the Epic Games Store on March 26 and and Season 1 will begin with Joker on March 28.
