I am once again informing you that the remake of KOTOR will be postponed for at least another year.

"Knights of the Old Republic" is one of Bioware's most beloved RPGs, a game that leverages the "Star Wars" expanded universe in an ingenious way, creating an entire fandom dedicated to a slice of a galaxy far, far away. So when the 2021 remake was announced, we were pretty excited. Then the film was relegated to the inferno of development.

In July 2022, the possibility surfaced that the remake had been postponed. No, wait, it was actually moved to another studio. So much so that the CEO of Embracer Group (the giant monolith that botched a $2 billion deal, later laid off over 1,000 people, canceled the Deus Ex sequel, and sold the studio to keep the lights on) outright refused to talk about it. But don't worry, it's not completely dead - Sabre Interactive is still working on it. We want to get off the wild ride that is Lars Wingforth. [Bloomberg's Jason Schreier (thanks, VGC) confirmed on Twitter that the game is not for sale: "Sabre is not for sale. However, as pointed out in the comments, Mr. Schreier did note that the game is included in the sale as a "joint project to be retained ...... It is likely to be one of the "previously announced AAA games based on major licenses": Mr. Schreier writes that "this is the only game. We don't know what deal they got there."

On a conference call yesterday, Embracer CEO Lars Vingefors was asked about a "major license-based AAA game" and whether it was for the "next 12 months," to which he replied: "No, I think you need a deep love and respect for that kind of game. I think it will be some time before that game is released."

So. It has not yet been at least a year since the supposedly relatively easy one-shot game. Personally, given the progress that has been made, I cannot hold my breath for a 2025 release. Miracles do happen. Maybe we just have to believe in the Force.
