[Prior to the start of the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024, it was announced that PGL has upgraded its setup with AMD's Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU for gaming pros. Coincidentally, we too chose this Red Team masterpiece as our CPU of choice for gaming.

Great minds, and all that.

The announcement of the PC setup change (via HXL on X) is a change from the Ryzen 9 5950X previously used in the competition, and given the power of the latest AMD chip with its innovative 3D V-Cache design, it is perfect for fast-paced games like CS2.

The Ryzen 7 7800X3D delivered the absolute highest frame rates of any chip in nearly every test. And when running at lower resolutions (most players choose 1280x960 output), which is how most esports players run their rigs, it outperforms all other chips by a comfortable margin, thanks to the additional boost in cache. Along with this AMD chip, it is the Nvidia RTX 4080 that plays a rather large role in obtaining a frame rate that complements the 25" 1080p 360Hz Zowie monitor attached to it. In other words, the Copenhagen PC will provide CS2 at some speed.

I am endlessly stunned that people are using TN screens like the Zowie XL2566K in 2024. I don't see the point of an expensive 360Hz 1440p OLED being outfitted on a tournament rig just for a 0.03ms response time.

The PGL CS Major Copenhagen 2024 starts this weekend, March 17, and runs through March 31.
