'Star Wars Battlefront' Classic Collection Incorporates Modder's Work After Aspyr Promises Not to: 'This Release Is a Complete Mess'

Balance returned to the Force Following the release of the well-received Star Wars Dark Force Remastered, the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection was not well received. Among the early complaints was that the trailer indicated that modifications had been incorporated without the modder's permission. Aspyr, the studio that developed the remaster, pledged not to use anyone else's "code or content" without permission in the actual release version. And while patches were subsequently applied, that did not turn out to be the case: on both PC and PlayStation, the launch version actually incorporated a mod that brought back Asajj Ventress as a playable character.

Ventress was exclusive to the Xbox version of Battlefront 2 back in 2005, but modder iamashaymin reskinned Aayla Secura and sneaked her into the PC version. That's how we know that the footage shot in the "Battlefront Classic Collection" is from iamashaymin's mod: Ventress is using Secura's animation and lightsaber. Ventress is using Secura's animation and lightsaber (oddly enough, later versions of this mod have Ventress' animation, which means that Aspyr was not using the latest version of this mod).

IGN contacted iamashaymin, who was not impressed. This mod said, "This release is a complete mess, and the fact that they had to release patches before and right after they released two games 10 years ago says it all."

"It seems to scream that it's a rushed development with a bunch of weird problems. "Some textures in the game are confused with Battlefront 1's, for example the water in Kashyyyk is blue like in Battlefront 1 and not gray like in Battlefront 2, and the DLC map itself has completely wrong textures in many places. We are using the wrong textures," iamashaymin said.

The Battlefront modding community was gearing up to deal with the re-release, and according to iamashaymin, they are not feeling so positive about it now. 'We were hoping for improvements that we could use to make it better, and of course we are ready to port and redevelop the mod content to work with the new game.' We have had some very well-known issues with the Death Star, such as the very well-known problem with the team's reinforcement tickets decreasing at twice the rate, or the voice line not playing due to a simple typo."

.

They called the remaster "a very broken game, with many problems that we have fixed in the past" and described its disappointing release as "a terrible gut punch."

Meanwhile, no one knows what is going on with the Knights of the Old Republic remake, but it is rumored that Aspire has been removed from the project and that it has been delayed for another year. There is no need to rush. Maybe take your time on this one.
