Co-creator of "Halo" who joined EA for "Battlefield" "gutted" that the publisher fired his entire team: nothing positive to say about EA

Marcus Lett is the co-creator of the "Halo" games and was senior creative on all Bungie-produced "Halo" titles until 2012. He then went independent at V1 Interactive, where he worked on the shooter "Disintegration," before joining EA in 2021 to found Ridgeline Games, a Seattle-based developer.

I say "was" because unfortunately, Ridgeline became one of the latest victims of the cruel era of game and tech layoffs: at the end of February, EA announced that it was closing its studio and laying off its entire staff. Around the same time, Leto announced that he was leaving the publisher. And he is not happy.

"I was gutted to see EA lay off my team," LeFteau said on X.

Lefto wants to make one thing clear. This was a very tough decision for me. He thanked the Battlefield community, wished the remaining team at EA continued success, and pointed his gun at the publisher.

"I have nothing positive to say about EA and my recent departure, so I won't say much here.

"And how many people, including my team, are suffering from the massive layoffs in this industry. Lefto later posted on LinkedIn, saying he was "incredibly upset and very sad" about the layoffs.

Ridgeline's single-player campaign was co-developed with DICE, which Lehto previously said would "engage players in a new way." It appears to have been an independent project, but it is unclear what will happen to it in the future.

Lefto, being an industry veteran, would not say what he really thinks. Lefto announced at the end of this post that he intends to take a break from the industry and consider whether he wants to return." In the meantime, I plan to take some time away from the game to think about what, if anything, I want to do next."
