General
Palworld developers are currently trying to fix a game-destroying bug that permanently weakens characters.

As of this writing, Pocketpair, the developer of Palworld, is nearly drowning in success. The colorful survival game has garnered a lot of attention during its development, mainly because the elevator pitch of "Pokémon with guns" instantly makes you want to see it in action.

Success, however, comes with its own set of problems. Since its launch, Palworld has faced a variety of bugs, including connection problems and players losing their save data, and it is clear from the game's Discord that the developers were completely unprepared for this level of success and are currently doing all they can to put out the fire. However, one particular bug could potentially ruin a save to the point that a reset is necessary.

The bug involves an item called a "memory reset potion" that is used to reset a player's skill points after leveling up, theoretically creating a character in a different way. However, at this time, the developer explains that it resets one status that cannot be recovered:

"Currently, using the item 'Memory Reset Pill' to reset a player's status may cause the player's capturing power to decrease and cannot be recovered. We are currently investigating this issue and apologize for the inconvenience, but please refrain from using this item until the investigation and correction is complete."

No ETA on a fix, but given the subsequent postings, this studio suddenly has quite a lot on its plate. Another note from the studio says, "We are currently receiving over 50,000 inquiries," which translates to roughly one for every 100 players.

"The development team is aware of serious bugs that are occurring, such as not being able to enter the servers, not being able to play multiplayer, and losing save data, and are currently working on a fix. We will share information on fixing these issues as soon as possible."

.

It also notes that some workarounds have been found (if you have problems with lost save data, the developers recommend trying to restore from a backup as described here). But while success on this scale is great, success on this scale creates many problems: while Epic got out of a jam by increasing the game's server capacity when its success became apparent, Pocketpair is now poking at 5 million of us to see what can be broken It goes without saying that until then, we'll have to wait and see. Until then, needless to say, let's not go around resetting memory.
