Immortality developer Sam Barlow teases two new projects on Steam, one a survival horror

Sam Barlow's studio, Half Mermaid, developer of Her Story, Telling Lies, and Immortality, one of the most acclaimed games of 2022, has announced two mysterious new projects on Steam The description of Project C begins with a biblical quote, "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as well as I am known." It is written.

Project D, on the other hand, is something of a survival horror, perhaps a game, whose description includes the words "1983," "nurse," "nightmare," and the always helpful "watch out. Oh, and "something bad."

With its emphasis on the "cinematic," "Project C" seems to be what one would expect from Barlow and Half Mermaid, who have worked on FMV mystery thrillers in the past. The studio's latest film, "Immortality," is literally about a movie star who produced three films, none of which were ever released, and has mysteriously disappeared again.

Project D, however, may be more of a departure: the Steam page tags it as a "thriller" and "story rich," but it is also clearly marked as a third-person survival horror. SteamDB actually lists Project D as Doors listing, which is not particularly insightful: the Steam description mentions "several doors" twice, and one of the images currently on the page is of a door, with an ominous red light shining through it.

Speaking of these teaser images, they are certainly evocative, but not particularly informative:

But this is Barlow's way: in 2020, he will be releasing a video with the code name "Project Ambrosio" and a bizarre image and a quick glitchy Immortality" with a heavily edited Steam page containing bizarre images and quick, glitchy video clips. Given Barlow's history of making fascinating and thought-provoking games, it's enough to pique interest, but not particularly useful.

At this point, there's nothing else to go on except what we can infer from the teaser: the "shots fired," the image of Nixon (I think) saying "We are Americans," the sound at the end of the Project C teaser, and perhaps a few other parts I've missed. Nixon uttered these words more than once, but one notable instance (according to Wikiquote) was when he paid tribute to Democratic Senator Henry Jackson in 1970. (Nixon was a Republican.)

"When the great issue of the defense of America, when the security of America, when the fate of our soldiers fighting for America overseas is involved, when the issues of peace and freedom are involved, when these issues are involved, we are not Democrats. not Republicans, not Republicans, but Americans."

"We are not Democrats, we are not Republicans, we are Americans.

I have no idea what the connection is, but Jackson died in 1983, the year that features heavily in the Project D teaser. Interpret as you wish.

Barlow himself said that the team was trying to "sneak" the teaser out, but "the Internet soon finds out!"

He did not say anything about what was new about him, except that.

Naturally, given how mysterious everything is, there is not even a hint of a release date for either new work at this time. I'm still waiting for more information from Half Mermaid about these two new projects, and I'll keep you posted. I will keep you posted.
