The world's largest mod site said no to Palworld's Pokémon mod after taking one look at Nintendo's record of "relentlessly filing legal objections".

Nexus Mods, which offers tens of thousands of mods for games like "Skyrim" and "Fallout," is supposedly the biggest mod site on the planet, but it is not willing to pick a fight with Nintendo's army of lawyers over "Pal World." As if removing Ash Ketchum's mod from their archives, Nexus community leader Mathew Elliot told PCGamesN, "I don't feel comfortable hosting this content."

"I think adding Pokémon content to Palworld is a very cool idea, and I understand why people might want to do that," Elliot said, but Nexus is just "not comfortable hosting this content." The reason, as you might expect, is Nintendo's litigiousness.

Elliot noted Nintendo's "consistent record of relentless legal recourse" and said that due to Pal World's "similarities to the Pokemon franchise," hosting content related to the Nintendo series would "almost certainly ...... a risky endeavor that "exposes it to the risk of legal action," he added.

Thus, the administrator believes that uploading Jigglypuff Palworld mods to Nexus represents, "at best," a legal threat from Nintendo and, "at worst," direct action against the site and the mod uploaders themselves. Of course, modders are free to upload mods that "clearly do not infringe on existing IP" other than Pokémods. Frankly, the word "obviously" is a bit odd. Show a little subtlety, people.

I contacted Nexus Mods and asked if they could provide further comment on their decision.

Unfortunately for those who wanted to fulfill their predecessors' dream of giving Mr. Mime a pump-action shotgun, this is not the end of the world. For one thing, there are plenty of ways to host mods without Nexus, and for another, it's an understandable decision for such a high-profile site. Nintendo has already filed copyright infringement claims against the Pokémon mod, and there is no reason to believe the company will make an exception for Nexus.
