Google updated Chrome, adding three AI tools to rearrange tabs, create new themes, and create text.

The use of generative AI, machine learning algorithms that generate images, text, or even sound, is spreading rapidly throughout the software industry, and countless pieces of software, including Photoshop and Windows, are magically doing things that were previously impossible. simple buttons that magically do what they could never do before. And now it's Chrome's turn: Google has added three AI tools to its browser.

Like other software giants, Google has been investing heavily in machine learning for some time; in Chrome's case, the new v121 update adds a new field on the settings page called "Experimental AI."

Unfortunately, living in the UK, I can't really see how that option is displayed, but Google says it is in that particular section. It is also worth noting that if you are using a corporate or educational account, the new feature is disabled for now.

The first tool essentially uses machine learning to organize all open tabs. For me, who never has more than 15 tabs open at a time, this is not something I would ever use, but for those who accumulate tabs (or never close them), it would be useful to have something that automatically suggests and creates groups of tabs.

I'm not sure if this feature would really be useful, partly because I can't test it myself, but also because the task itself isn't that hard. How many people think, "I can't organize my own tabs, so I need the help of an algorithm"?

I feel the same way about the second tool. This tool uses a piece of generative AI to create a new theme for your Chrome account. You enter a few words, select a few options to control the generation process, and then choose your favorite of the six final results.

The examples below look pretty nice and make a change from using standard blank colors, but how often do people use this?

The tool that will probably be used the most is the last one in the new Chrome update. This is again a generative AI, sort of like ChatGPT. If a web page has a text field and you need to write a fairly long sentence there, right click on the text box and select "Help me write."

Google's AI servers then work their magic and create the body of the text based on the first sentence you wrote. For example, if you want to write a review of a product, you could type "The RoboBot 6000 is a programmable toy robot," and in theory, the AI model would edit it into a sentence that you could post. It will finish it for you.

[20] With Google adding this feature to the world's most popular web browser, one wonders how many AI-generated erroneous posts we will see on social media and message boards.

I guess this is progress for you. If you find this feature appealing and you live in the US, update and restart Chrome and check the "Settings" menu.
