Palworld" becomes the second game in Steam history to reach more than 2 million concurrent users.

Palworld keeps discovering numbers I didn't know before: did you know the figure was 8 million units?

But that's frankly old news. That's because "Palworld" just became only the second game in history to reach over 2 million simultaneous players on Steam, the highest peak ever, with 2,018,905 players simultaneously seeking the highest Pals (according to SteamDB). This is a number that surpasses literally every game on Steam except Counter-Strike 2, Lost Ark, Dota, Cyberpunk 2077, and, well, actually, PUBG: Battlegrounds.

Palworld's all-time player peak is about 200,000 more than Counter-Strike 2's peak, but it still has a long way to go to take the top spot; PUBG made waves in January 2018, turning two-thirds of video games into battle royale when it reached a ridiculous high of 3,257,248 players. Pal World could have a similar effect. Fortnite could have a Pokémon mode.

Personally, I don't think Fortnite will manage it, but I've been wrong before. Besides, it's already history for something resembling Pokemon to reach such heights as Pal World. The pokepair team must be bewildered and overwhelmed by the sudden superstardom.

Pocket Pair isn't in the news for all the big numbers they've uncovered; they've released a roadmap for Palworld and an ambitious (but undated) vision for the future of gaming. Additionally, we are all wary that Nintendo will take issue with Palworld's striking resemblance to the Pokémon series. It's like a standoff with a Mexican lawyer. [But Nintendo seems surprisingly reluctant to set up a legal team; Nexus Mods recently told users that it would not host Palworld's Pokémon mod because Nintendo has a history of "relentless legal battles." Probably wise.
