Lost Boys Interactive, an Embracer company, confirms "difficult" layoffs.
[former producer Jared Pace revealed on LinkedIn (via Game Developer) that "a significant portion" of his employees have been laid off.

The Lost Boys Interactive website describes the studio as a "wholly owned but independent subsidiary of Gearbox Software" and a "proud member of the Embracer Group." Past titles include Square Enix's "The Quiet Man" and, unfortunately, "Tiny Tina's Wonderlands" and "Diablo 4," which became a Gearbox studio less than two years ago, in June 2022.

"It appears that a significant portion of Lost Boys Interactive, including myself, were laid off today," Pace wrote.

"But sadly, this is the song and dance we all know so well.

Pace's report was corroborated by many other Lost Boys employees, including art director Nick Barone, who described the layoffs as "the hardest day of my career."

"In the company-wide layoffs at Lost Boys Interactive," Barone wrote, "so many talented artists and genuinely wonderful people were let go, even though I was spared." I simply do not have the words to convey how much all the relationships I have formed have meant to me personally."

"If someone needs a reference, feel free to reach out." [Unfortunately, I am one of the people affected by the layoffs at Lost Boys Interactive, which is part of the Gearbox/Embracer group," wrote concept artist Patricia Lan-Anh D. LBI was a great studio and a highlight of my career." I hope to see you all again. Best wishes to you and all those affected!"

In a statement provided to PC Gamer, Lost Boys Interactive confirmed that the employee had been laid off.

"Lost Boys Interactive has made the difficult decision to restructure the studio to ensure its success despite the headwinds the industry is now facing. Unfortunately, this means we will be separating from some of our team members and we are working closely with those affected." We know this is a difficult time for this talented and experienced group, and we will provide support and assistance to those leaving through this transition."

2023 was a brutal year of layoffs in the video game and technology business, and so far 2024 is no better. Even though the year is only two weeks old, Bossa Studios, Unity, Twitch, and Discord have already made significant job cuts. While most of them have cited the need to "reset," as Unity puts it, after expanding too aggressively in the years since the Covid-19 pandemic began, Embracer Group is a unique case: the Swedish holding company is a real After rapidly growing into a gaming giant, it found itself in a bind in May 2023 when a $2 billion investment deal with Saudi Arabia's Savvy Games fell through at the last minute. Since then, Embracer has laid off hundreds of employees across its studios and completely shut down Versus Evil, Free Radical Design, Campfire Cabal, and Volition.
