In the battle for graphics card sales, there are only three competitors: AMD, Intel, and Nvidia. Unfortunately, GPU development takes years, so when one of them introduces a new product, its competitors are rarely in a position to fight back with a similar new chip, which is exactly what AMD has done with the Radeon RX 7900 XT.

With a regular SEP/ MSRP of $799, AMD's second most powerful graphics card, the Radeon RX 7900 XT usually competes with Nvidia's GeForce RTX 4070 Ti at the same price. However, with the recent release of the $599 RTX 4070 Super, which offers performance quite close to the 4070 Ti, neither card looks that attractive.

So AMD has teamed up with mainboard partners and some online retailers (found on TweakTown) to reduce the price of ASRock, Sapphire, PowerColour, and XFX Radeon RX 7900 XT cards by $90. At $710, the 7900 XT is the cheapest ever, although in some cases you will need to use a promo code to get the full discount.

After these discounts end, the base price only goes back up to $749. This is $150 less than at launch, and it must be said that the original price of $899 did not make sense.

In addition to the US, Germany-based Hardwareluxx also reports that several stores in the EU are selling the 7900 XT at a reduced price. The UK retailers have not yet indicated a price reduction, but that does not necessarily mean that some sort of discount will not be offered in this or other markets. [But with Nvidia's RTX 4070 Ti Super coming soon, is it worth it?

The RTX 4070 Ti Super is expected to be faster than the original 4070 Ti (well, you'd hardly expect it to be slower), and for the same money you'd probably opt for the 4070 Ti Super. However, $90 is not a cheap buy, so this price cut is a rather tricky proposition. Especially when the $599 4070 Super is neck and neck.

Not to be outdone, the Radeon RX 7900 XT is a very powerful graphics card loaded with shaders, and with 20GB of VRAM, you won't have to worry about running out of memory for some games.

Combine that with features such as FSR 3 for upscaling and frame generation, and the fact that some games (such as Call of Duty) run better on AMD GPUs than on Nvidia GPUs, and you got a huge graphics card at a healthy discount!

However, the fact that AMD's GPUs are more expensive than Nvidia's is not a surprise.

But is it worth $110 more than the 4070 Super? Sure, it's faster, but if you're a fan of ray tracing, generative AI, or content creation like Blender, you're better off choosing Team Green. Sure, the Radeon RX 7900 XT has more VRAM, but that's not as important as you might think.

On the other hand, if you are considering a significant GPU upgrade and want to stick it to Nvidia and its high price, the $710 RX 7900 XT is a very attractive way to go.
