Season 3 of Diablo 4 will give you your own robotic companion, equipped with all sorts of powerful skills and modifiable with "tuning stones" You can read a list of these new season items in a Blizzard blog post, but two of them remain blank
Last week's PC PCs were "secretly" mentioned by Sanctuary scholars.
In an interview with PC Gamer last week, Blizzard said that these two companion tuning stones reflect the power and rarity of Diablo 4's uber-uniques and will be "bragging rights" when found.
The Evernight Tuning Stone echoes the power of the game's most popular uber-unique, Harlequin Crest, which grants 4 ranks to all skills for a short period of time and dramatically increases the damage a Seneschal does when attacking enemies. The second uber-unique stone, however, remains a mystery.
In the current season, the uber-unique is a prime target for those powerful enough to defeat the most difficult endgame bosses that drop them. Uber-uniques have become so popular that an entire economy has emerged on Discord servers and third-party websites, trading in-game materials for farming uber-uniques for both real money and gold. Players also regularly organize groups to share boss challenges, and "LFM Duriel rota[tion]" spam is common in chat while playing.
Systems Game Designer Shaun White did not tell us how these unique coordination stones work during our interview (Blizzard provided us with screenshots of Evernight), but compared their power to 25 other stones He emphasized: "If you find a unique tuning stone, that in itself is something to brag about. A lot, a lot really."
Both of these unique tuning stones, Evernight and Genesis, work like no other and change the way your little spider robot skills work." The "governing stone" gives the Seneschal basic skills like the ability to fire lightning bolts, while the "regulating stone" can be altered to fire more bullets or trigger buildable effects like stun or poison damage. White says it's "comparable to an uber-unique" in that it gives you something different from regular legendary equipment, such as a random shrine buff to help you defeat powerful enemies. Everyone will be after Evernight and Genesis.
Uber Uniques were much rarer when Diablo 4 first launched. In Season 2, they became farmable with an estimated 2% drop rate from Uber Duriel. I managed to collect most of them after hundreds of attempts. It was a great opportunity to smash daemons as if I were playing on Easy and reduce the time I had to play the season. Once you reach the pinnacle of power, there isn't much left to do.
Later in Season 3, however, Blizzard will be adding a leaderboard that races fixed dungeons that change weekly. Those who really want to get to the top will surely want to hunt down these new ubers; Blizzard has not confirmed where to find them, but my guess is that they will have to grind Malphas, the new season boss.
Diablo 4 Season 3, "Season of Constructs," will begin on January 23 at 10 a.m. PT.
