'RuneScape' Old School player pickpockets 500,000 NPCs in repeatedly refrained treasure hunt, "See you in a million!" I say.

It seems like every dedicated player of old-school RuneScape is conquering a new Everest every week. There's the player who spent 149 hours playing a terrible mini-game to get a raccoon, the player who beat the 1 in 100 million odds to get a gemstone that wasn't particularly noteworthy, the guy who caught a million below average fish, and now the guy who robbed 500,000 fascists to get his money. player. Unless you are very hungry.

Discovered by GamesRadar, the player in question is a Reddit user named eat_my_yarmulke (whose Reddit sense is by choice), who two days ago posted on the OSRS sub-Reddit that HAM, or Humans Against Monsters pickpocketed 500,000 members of the Humans Against Monsters, and posted screenshots of their harvest. They are, in short, pretty lame, but it was not for political reasons that eat_my_yarmulke specifically targeted them.

Our heroes got a mountain of loot from their 500,000 victims, including nearly 10,000 shrimp and about 5,000 dashing magenta hats. But the real reason they targeted HAM is because they are a source of easy clue scrolls, random drops that can be departed on one of the OSRS treasure trails, and small Easter egg hunts that lead to loot. Which loot you get depends on the difficulty of the treasure trail.

Eat_my_yarmulke is on a quest to complete a simple Treasure Trail Collection Log (OSRS allows players to track drops from various activities in the game in a log, which turns green when completed). One, they are playing in Iron Man mode, so they cannot trade with other players, etc. Second, they are skilling, i.e., they intentionally keep their combat level at the lowest rank.

This means that they cannot get clue scrolls from other players or fight NPCs. You have to pickpocket from roaming NPC fascists. To make matters worse, you cannot complete all the scrolls of clues you pick up. Some of them contain requirements that are impossible for people with intentionally low defenses, such as "wear steel armor."

In other words, according to eat_my_yarmulke, they can only complete "~76%" of the pickpocketed easies. On top of that, they are quite unlucky, and despite getting nearly 10,000 scrolls from 500,000 pickpockets, they still have a long way to go to complete their quest. They told one of their buddies on Reddit, "See you in a million!" I said. My hero is gone.

Cynics might be tempted to accuse the poor player of automating some of this arduous task, but on Reddit they have brushed off the claim. In response to a player who asked how much the script cost, eat_my_yarmulke replied, "First of all, that's rude. Secondly, my Razer Naga Trinity was about $60 at Best Buy and it held up well to all the clicks, I recommend it," to which another player replied, "The pickpocket itself only takes about 100 hours, but if you complete the hints it will take you about 1000 hours." I told him.

OSRS may be the best game ever. I hope I never get addicted to it.
