The patch notes for Starfield's "biggest" update have been released, with bug fixes and visual updates.

Last week, PC Gamer's Andy Chalk talked about Starfield's upcoming patch, which he described as "the biggest update in Starfield history."

Well, here are the patch notes for beta testing. There will be visual and lighting upgrades for certain areas, animations, quest lines, and bug fixes for some abilities. Also, you no longer get the pet rock that comes with your ship. This feels like a downgrade. Asteroid Asti, rest in peace.

A peek at the game's subreddit reaction thread shows that Bethesda has not fixed some lingering bugs, such as the reload speed perk no longer working when a grenade is equipped.

The site says: "We appreciate all the feedback we see and receive and will continue to monitor and track your issues and critiques! By continuing to share feedback and issues, we can do our best to prioritize them." We do not want to downplay the hard work that must have gone into this. Bug squashing is a grueling and often thankless job, but it is a bit odd to call this the "biggest update ever" when it is only technically so. By that logic, my breakfast would be the biggest meal I've had today, which is factually correct. Of course, Bethesda has promised a more substantial update on a six-week cycle in February.

It is also likely that many of these promised improvements are being worked on, just not out of the oven yet. Teams cannot blindly assign too many developers to a particular project. It remains to be seen how impactful these changes will actually be.

Still, if you had any issues with the core experience of the game, as Steam reviewers did, there is not much, if anything, that this patch offers. The "Starfield" you were playing is still the same "Starfield" you've always played, warts and all in space.
