PC Gamer has long been a fan of Ducky keyboards, not only for their great build quality and fun naming scheme, but also because one of the things the company is usually good at is visual perfection. From the ultra-pink, ultra-wonderful Ducky One 3 Fuji to the subtle RGB Ducky Shine 5 RGB, we've been delighted by Ducky's refusal to adopt a stereotypical gamer aesthetic. However, the newly released Ducky x Doom SF 65% keyboard, to be honest, just doesn't do it for me.

When I first saw pictures of the keyboard in question, I squinted. At first it looked like a weird tie-dye design, but zooming in, I realized it was the iconic image that every gamer knows: the torn Doom Marine.

However (and I don't know if this is just this photo), the detail seems to have been transformed by the printing process into something that my eyes refuse to properly parse.

Good design is often clean, which is something Ducky has excelled at for many years. However, stretching the detailed image into a keycap resulted in something far more psychedelic than the company intended.

Things seem to get even worse when RGB backlighting is enabled, as it further breaks up the visual flow. This is a strange clash of aesthetics, and one that I will not board.

Still, taste is subjective, and if Doom and all things Doom-related are your taste, perhaps this may be the keeb for you. According to Ducky, there are 666 (get it?) of these Bethesda-licensed keyboards.

The board features Ducky's true PBT keycaps, a selection of hot-swappable switches, multiple layers of acoustic pads, and three adjustable feet, so it's no wonder it feels as great as other Ducky keyboards we've tested.

However, that printed design is a shame, although it may be just right for Doom enthusiasts and those looking for something a little different to complement their esoteric gaming rigs.
