LG will unveil its tube-driven transparent OLED "DukeBox" at CES.

CES 2024 is fast approaching, and the much-anticipated products are beginning to be announced. But mixed in with the expected notebook refreshes and big-screen blockbusters are some quirky products that always, shall we say, grab the attention of many: LG has announced several products from LG Labs this year, including a rather attractive-looking audio device, which may have set the bar fairly high early on.

LG describes it as an "innovative audio product" that aims to combine the power of tube audio with an OLED panel with adjustable transparency that can be used as both a control means and a display.

Audio output is handled by a front-facing speaker at the bottom and a 360-degree speaker at the top, which, when combined with these valves, should create some unique audio and visual experience.

LG claims that the DukeBox is designed to be versatile and can even be used to enjoy movies. However, the extent to which the transparency of that gorgeous glass-fronted OLED display can be adjusted may be the deciding factor in whether you can see anything without being distracted by that glowing bulb. I can't imagine watching a movie on a glass-fronted tube amplifier, though.

Nevertheless, as an object of desire, it is certainly something. The combination of nostalgia and cutting-edge OLED technology is a smart choice for a product designed for the high-end market. Because nothing ruins the look of a gorgeous panel more than sticky smudges and fingerprints

. It would not be suitable for people with children or pets. But as a work of art, it's definitely a great piece of art, and it had us swooning in a group chat with PC Gamer's hardware team.

This isn't the only unusual product to be unveiled at the Las Vegas show; LG will also be showing off an upgraded version of its "customized living space" that it calls Bon Voyage by LG Labs.

This car-loaded little space is designed to house a variety of appliances, including "stylers and shoe care products," according to LG. Indeed, the caravan holidays I went on as a child, which involved stir-frying on a camping gas stove and using a chemical toilet that was too small for the purpose, seem far fancier.

Anyway, visitors to CES 2024, which starts January 9, can check out these products in person at the company's booth. I, however, have my eye on DukeBox. I've seen enough caravans to last a lifetime.
