Starfield" Modder is doing what Bethesda should be doing: making steerable mechs.

One of the things I really don't understand about "Starfield" is the mecha situation. Mecha are everywhere. There is a lot of mecha lore from the Colonial Wars decades ago. You can see mechs in factories, junkyards, and even museums; one of Starfield's early gameplay trailers even showed a shot of the player walking past a mech, and animated trailers featured mechs heavily.

However, in Starfield, players cannot actually board and pilot a mech (lore explains that mechs have been banned since the end of the war). Bethesda has decided that with regard to mechas, you can see them, but you can't touch them. And definitely not to ride them. My question is, why?

The good news is that a modder named Jared Kohr is doing what Bethesda probably should have done in the first place: check out Kohr's ongoing mod in the video below. You can actually get inside the towering mech and go stomping on the planet's surface! The mech is very cool (the model is credited to another modder m150) and feels chunky and heavy as you walk, run, and stomp around. The weapon system looks and sounds great, but at times the cannon fire does not appear to be coming from the mech itself.

There is obviously a lot more work to be done, and (hopefully) the angle of the third-person camera should be adjustable so that you can see further than just a few dozen yards away. I'm also hoping for a first-person cockpit view and a great HUD and crosshairs for weapons. This will finally allow me to confront the Terror Morphs without running away.

While we wait for the Mech Mod to be completed and released, please note that Bethesda may also be working on the Mech. Late last year, they announced that Starfield will have a "new means of transportation" as a 2024 update, which is rather vague, but may include ground vehicles for planetary exploration.

My best guess is something like a speeder bike, but given that mechs are essentially power armor but larger and that the "Fallout" games have a lot of power armor, it wouldn't take much for Bethesda to make mechs officially available in Starfield. It doesn't seem like it would take much effort. Would it?
