Multiversus fans were not hallucinating - the phantom sticker at McDonald's in Belgium was a real promotional item.

Last month, the MultiVersus rumor mill went crazy over a sticker in a McDonald's in Belgium.

As we noted then, the fan community... . coping; in December, a Josh Hutcherson fan cam called "Blow the Whistle" and pointed out that the game's subreddit had earned him over 500 upvotes. That's normal.

Well, it turns out that this promotion is true (thanks, TheGamer). Looking at the McDonald's Belgium website, there is a genuine promotion, although it is noticeable that there is no "see more information" button. Click on the "more information" button on the home page and you'll find the link:

"Multiversus" is a mighty fantasy game in which Warner Bros. heroes join forces and fight in pairs, collecting 24 iconic characters. Create the strongest duo and prepare for the Multiversus battle of the century." As noted by Multiversusie on Twitter, MultiVersus had only 23 characters. While there is a possibility of error, Tom and Jerry (counted as one fighter in the game) are considered two characters for promotional purposes.

Oddly enough, there is no whisper of this (at the time of writing) on the game's account or on the feed of developer Player1stGames. There is only one post on the official McDonald's Belgium account, from last May. It appears to have been nothing more than a weekend promotion after a Belgian member of parliament accidentally referred to the consulting firm McKinsey & Company as "M.G. Kensie." I feel trapped in the world's crappiest ARG.

Fortunately, the game's voracious fans are following the case. AusilMV on Twitter is collecting cans and photos from various sources:

There are also some new "renderings" of known registered characters, shared and cleaned up by MVSDonkDonk. Finally, here are some official T.V. commercials. Or perhaps the first instance where someone hired a child actor and film crew for a fake game leak.

This whole thing (as well as the game's sudden disappearance) is complete Looney Tunes. There is no tie-in to the release date, no word from official channels, and a McDonald's ad campaign available only in certain countries. Still, it confirmed that it wasn't just what people had imagined in December and that MultiVersus had not been forgotten. Perhaps.
