Jack Black Continues to Collect Video Game Movie Roles Like Infinity Stones After Decision to Star in "Minecraft" Movie

Jack Black can't seem to stay away from video game adaptations.

As reported by Deadline, Black will now join Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, and Danielle Brooks in the cast. The film will be directed by Jared Hess, the director of "Napoleon Dynamite" and "Nacho Libre," and Deadline's rumor is that Black will be the default (main?) actor in the game. However, it is not yet known what the story will actually be. [He played Bowser in last year's "Super Mario Bros. Movie" and is the voice of Claptrap in the upcoming "Borderlands. As a longtime Jack Black supporter, I may be a little biased, but I feel like he really shines in every movie he appears in. His performance in "Super Mario Bros. Movie" is the most memorable part of the film for me, and I'm almost certain that he would make me finally like the terribly annoying hunk of scum in "Borderlands.

Filming on the "Minecraft" movie should start pretty soon: ...... I hope so. Filming was supposed to take place in New Zealand in August, but that plan was scrapped due to the SAG-AFTRA strike late last year. Now that the strike is over, filming is expected to resume this month. The film is scheduled to be released on April 4, 2025.

It has been a rough development period for the film adaptation, to say the least. A film adaptation of Minecraft has been in the works for at least a decade, and before Rob McElhenny (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) took the helm, Shawn Levy was slated to direct. When things fizzled out a few years later, he was replaced by Peter Sollett, but unfortunately his attempt also failed in 2020. Hopefully, given that Hess has taken the spot and things seem to be moving forward quite a bit at this point, the April 2025 release date will actually happen.
