ASRock unveiled two new ultra-fast LCD gaming monitors at CES.
The most intriguing is definitely the latter, which combines a 27-inch IPS panel with 1440p resolution and 400Hz refresh. This is the ASRock Phantom Gaming PG27QFW2A. [Another model is the ASRock Phantom Gaming PG27FFX2A, also 27 inches, but this time running at a full 520Hz. Unfortunately, ASRock has not provided any further information at this time. However, given that ASRock lists the resolution of the PG27QFW2A as 1440p, the PG27FFX2A is most likely a 1080p model, given that it is not 1440p and has a refresh frequency of 520Hz.
Anyway, expect 400Hz 1440p'er. Speaking of which, ASRock is also preparing an OLED gaming monitor for CES.
According to ASRock, two new gaming models will offer QHD resolution and run at 240Hz and offer the company's first OLED technology. They are called the "Phantom Gaming PGO34QRT2A" and "Phantom Gaming GO27QFS2A," respectively, and again ASRock has not revealed details. However, from the product names, it appears that there will be a 27-inch 2,560 x 1,440 model and a 34-inch ultrawide 3,440 x 1,440 option.
It is unclear whether ASRock is using LG WOLED or Samsung QD-OLED panel technology, but we suspect the former purely because LG panels are more widely used. As such, details such as full screen brightness and sub-pixel structure remain unknown, as well as price and release date.
That said, ASRock products tend to offer adequate performance and sharp pricing. This is definitely the case with the ASRock Phantom PG34WQ15R2B, one of the most affordable ultrawide gaming panels available.
As such, we expect ASRock to bring the same value-oriented experience to the OLED monitor market. We would like to see more affordable options. Dare I say, I expect something in the $600-$700 range.
