Baldur's Gate 3 has a touching tribute to a father with Alzheimer's who loves BG2: "He listened to my explanation with a childlike glee I had not seen for some time.

Early in his access to "Baldur's Gate 3," a player named Solfaria wrote a heartfelt letter of thanks to Larian Studios. His father had recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and was unlikely to be able to play the full game: "This is more than Early Access for me, it is another adventure I can go on with my old man and make good memories."

In a follow-up post on the game's forum, Sorfaria said he "got to play with him that Christmas.

In addition, Solfaria explained that one of the game's writers reached out to him after his initial post: "I found that my message resonated with quite a few of you, as many of us have experienced family struggles with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. A "super writer" (the name he chose to respect the writer's privacy) had emailed me to ask if I would accept to include something in the game to honor my father."

Once the game was released, Solfaria asked where he could find that tribute, saying he did not want to miss it while playing.

"But it turned out that the superwriters did more than that.

They showed Solfaria the home of one illithid hunter, Golbraith. He had made a name for himself as a great mind flayer hunter, and after his retirement, he spent his time writing to pass on his knowledge to future generations. He discovered that not only did Golbraith have multiple lines of dialogue, but that the house was littered with thoughtful details.

"A bundle of letters with Golbraith and his son left a lump in my throat. I decided to boot up the game and head over to Lower City to save: "The correspondence between Golbraith and his son has been lovingly preserved. I also spoke with the NPC himself and was deeply moved by his words.

This was confirmed yesterday by Rachel Quirk (a writer for Larian Studios) on Twitter, where she wrote:" There was not a dry eye in the house when I read that letter: ...... So happy to honor the mighty Mind Flayer Hunter." The studio's founder and CEO, Sven Vinke, also wrote, "It's a shitty disease. My father and grandmother had Parkinson's. Also, superwriters are wonderful human beings."

After Solfaria finished cleaning the house from top to bottom, she went to visit her father outside Sword Coast. 'He's in a care home now, so he can't play the game, but he listened to my explanation with childlike glee. He loved every moment of it. He loved the idea of his character having a monocle and was proud that his character had a secret basement with weapons. He still talks about it from time to time during our weekly chats."

"Thank you, Larian. Truly. It was so much more than I could have hoped for. My father and I love it.
