"Warhammer Quest will soon be closed to new sales on Steam," the turn-based dungeon crawler's recent news post succinctly states.
"Thanks for your years of support for this game, Warhammer Quest, released in 2015, is an adaptation of Games Workshop's tabletop game of the same name. It's a sort of Advanced Advanced Hero Quest, somewhere between a board game and an RPG, combining a brooding and dangerous underground world with a slightly less brooding above-ground world where the story beats unfold as you recuperate in the city.
Unfortunately, like many licensed games, its lifespan is on a timer: in response to a discouraging comment from a player on the Steam forums, the official Chilled Mouse account stated, "It is not appropriate to discuss the details of the license (and, perhaps under our contract with them not allowed). However, Games Workshop has been a great partner for us in this game and has been very generous in their interpretation of the agreement. All good things eventually come to an end."
Chilled Mouse also clarified that Warhammer Quest 2 is "unrelated to this announcement" and will continue to be sold, but when sales will end, if it will be discounted before then, or if Warhammer Quest will also be removed from GOG The company did not disclose when the sale would end, if it would be discounted before that, or if Warhammer Quest would be removed from GOG as well, and did not respond to a request for comment.
The delisting of Warhammer Quest follows the removal of Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf on October 12 and last year's removal of Warhammer 40,000: Regicide and Age of Sigmar:. Champions" were delisted. It's a brutal situation for licensed games.
