Ubisoft Celebrates 10th Anniversary of "Locksmith 2014" at All Stores

Rocksmith 2014 has reached its final lockout: almost a decade after the debut of the acclaimed guitar learning game, Ubisoft has ended sales on all digital storefronts.

"Almost a decade ago, we launched Rocksmith 2014 and together we embarked on a journey of learning and playing guitar, practicing old favorites and discovering new ones in the process," Ubisoft announced on October 20, three days before the game's 10th anniversary The past 10 years have been wonderful. We are grateful for the amazing decade we have had and recognize that being able to learn and play officially licensed songs in 'Rocksmith 2014' was a big part of that"

.

"As we approach the 10-year milestone, we will be removing Rocksmith 2014 from all digital stores as of October 23, 2023... Rocksmith 2014 DLC packs and singles will be removed from these storefronts as time goes on. They will be removed from these storefronts as well."

Those who already own Rocksmith 2014 will be able to access Rocksmith 2014 and any DLC they own without a "change or interruption" in service. For those who want to rock but missed that opportunity, Ubisoft's subscription-based Rocksmith+ will continue to be available, and in fact, Ubisoft is "looking to bring some of the biggest names in metal, rock, and R&B into the game in the coming months ."

Rocksmith 2014 was indeed a great effort; it has received "very positive" reviews on Steam over the years, with 91% of our reviews (via Metacritic) stating that "not only is it a fun game for guitar players, but it's a great way to learn how to play the guitar and We called it "not only a fun game for guitar players, but also a great way to learn how to play the guitar and improve your technique" with 91% of reviews (via Metacritic). The remastered version released a few years later added better practice tools and features such as stat tracking, and the need for a "real tone cable" to connect the guitar to the PC was finally patched out, making the software more accessible to players. It also boasted a vast music library, with 1,570 songs available when DLC sales were finally halted in 2020.

Some of the Rocksmith 2014 DLC has already been discontinued, with others to follow in the coming months. If you are an owner and want to make sure you get as many locks as you can handle, now is the time to browse the rest of the catalog and take what you can get.

Ubisoft has not revealed why it had to remove "Rocksmith 2014" from sale. We speculate that it is most likely due to the expiration of the license (because it usually is), but it is also possible that they wanted to focus solely on Rocksmith+. Whatever the reason, in the words of The Who, "Rocksmith 2014 is dead - long live Rocksmith 2014."
