Grand Theft Auto fans, convinced that a big announcement was coming today, are now beginning to wonder if Rockstar is just kidding themselves.

"Grand Theft Auto 6" continues to be a Schrödinger's like, announced or not. A tweet about a new outfit being added to Red Dead Online.

Here's the tweet. What do you see?

OK, now what do the rest of you see?

Some see it this way:

Pretty wild: Somehow, GTA fans have discovered a sign from the powers that be, even more subtle than the moon teaser from earlier this month. At least the Roman numeral VI was clearly visible.

The fun comes not from the possibility (or lack thereof) of a new "GTA" announcement, but from the fact that, at this stage, we have no idea who is serious and who is just stirring the pot. There are true believers, no doubt - there are always true believers - but there is a distinct impression that the bulk of the uproar is due to people enjoying a cynical laugh at the whole affair.

For example, this theory dug up by "Rock, Paper, Shotgun" is ridiculous, but ...... Well, maybe it is, eh?

I don't know if this is the only theory for an October 24 release, but GTA6 has been trending all day on Twitter. You can do whatever you want about that.

One theory that I can actually buy into without too much effort is that all of this is intentional, not because Rockstar is about to release GTA6, but to confuse fans and get them excited. It sounds like a tremendously fun idea, but it's also a risky maneuver: people are easily super-mad these days. On the other hand, I have no doubt that all will be forgiven and forgotten the moment "GTA6" is officially released to the world, and Rockstar's social team has a certain leeway that most other studios do not.

If I were a community manager I would do that. So maybe I'm not a community manager.

My sincere hope is that most of the people participating in all this hype and gossip are doing so in the spirit of fun. After all, there's nothing wrong with getting excited about something you care about, and if it doesn't work out this time, there's obviously always next time. (23][24] For those who are dying to get a whiff of actual facts, here's one: on November 8, Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive, will announce its second quarter 2024 financial results. Will details of "GTA6" be revealed then? Frankly, no. These things are generally very boring and dry for investors. But it's possible." Anything is possible: Never forget that "Mortal Kombat 12" was revealed not with a flashy trailer or a big press release, but with a blurt by David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, during a conference call.

We should not forget the fact that the press release was not released.

We will of course be listening in on that conference call and will let you know if anything cool happens. In the meantime, here's a bit of wisdom from Resetera's GTA6 thread that I'm sure we can all stand to hear:
