This graphics mod for Dark Souls is so comprehensive that it breaks boss fights and allows you to bomb the Capra Demon from on high.

Dark Souls is an interconnected game, and if you datamined a full model of Lord Run, you could see the whole thing, from the swamps of Bright Town to the hallowed halls of Anor Londo, like a model train set.

When the game first appeared on the PC, its port was quite a shock. It took about six years for most of the complaints to be addressed in the remastered version. But we are PC gamers. If we're not modding our games to have rig-melting textures and dewmar rocket boots, what are we doing here?

Fromsoftserve and their DSR Graphics Overhaul mod (thanks, Gamesradar) is another attempt to polish a classic into a mirror shine. This is really impressive. Add dynamic shadows to the road run, make the Anor Londo windows see-through, add new meshes in far-flung places, etc.

This has increased the game's sense of interconnectedness, making it possible to see anything from anywhere as long as you can draw a reasonable line of sight. However, it turned out that From Software was kind of betting on this drawing distance.

"With my graphics overhaul mod, you can easily cheese Capra Daemons with flaming bullets," wrote fromsoftserve, showing a demo of its character hacking flaming bullets all the way from the Taurus Daemon fight to the Capra Daemon fight below. The modder is happy that this will work. The modder is pleased that this works, and their description is quite in keeping with the rest of the game's design.

"This is one of my favorite changes in my mod," fromsoftserve wrote in reply. 'Because it's the location of the actual boss's room, so it makes sense that it would be visible from here.' Plus, I don't think most new players will notice it yet. But for skilled players, they can take advantage of it."

Overall, there is some great work being done here, and Fromsoftserve is closely scrutinizing Lordran and fixing little details that only longtime fans would notice. You can keep up to date with the developers' logs on their YouTube channel. And considering how much CapraDemon gave us a hard time in 2011, the sight of him and his freak dogs being set on fire is irresistible.
