After the disastrous launch of "Payday 3," Starbreeze has partnered with an Australian studio to provide "release management expertise" to the "Fortnite" island.

"Payday 3" is in a precarious state. The launch has been disastrous, fans are outraged, and the promised patch is being put off more and more (for what seems to be a good reason). There is only one thing developers in this perilous situation can do: launch Fortnite Island. It's the oldest trick in the book.

Turtle vs Turtle is a new island in Epic's hugely popular battle royale/concert venue/metaverse/horror of the coming world darkness, promising a PvP experience focused on "two giant moving battle platforms." Players will be divided into two teams, scaling from 1v1 to 8v8, and challenged to "gather resources around the

perimeter of the map to gain funds to build turrets and defenses, and destroy the opponent's platforms while defending their own."

To be clear, Turtle vs Turtle was only "launched" by Starbreeze. The developer is Australia's Torus Games, a company that is frankly known for having a huge number of licensed games, and it would be kind of funny to imagine Starbreeze developers suddenly starting work on "Fortnite Island" while "Payday 3" smolders in the background. It's kind of funny to imagine them getting to work on it, but that's what the studio's publishing arm will be doing with "marketing, community management, live services operations, development financing ...... data management and analytics," and "release management" - just to provide "expertise." Hmm.

So this whole partnership probably could have been better timed, or at least not started with a message about Starbreeze's "release management expertise" after this year's more notably disastrous releases.

If you are interested in Turtle vs Turtle, I don't blame you, it can be seen today on Fortnite under the Starbreeze banner. From what I hear, this won't be Starbreeze's last foray into gaming, as Gustav Nisser, Starbreeze's head of third-party publishing, said in a statement that Torus is "a game that Epic is trying to evolve (for Fortnite Torus is the perfect partner for us as we explore the world of the Unreal Editor (for Fortnite) that Epic is trying to evolve," said Gustav Nisser, Head of Third Party Publishing at Epic. Torus CEO Bill McIntosh, meanwhile, said, "Starbreeze has been pivotal in helping us realize our vision. Their backing has allowed us to create a unique island that we believe our players will love."
