Iron Lung has received a major update that includes a "Markiplier Mode". The indie horror game became so popular last year when a YouTuber played it in full and garnered over 8 million views, and he enjoyed the game so much that he is now directing and starring in a film adaptation of Iron Lung. The latest update adds a few cheats, of which the "Markiplier Mode" is the silliest new feature. When activated, your ship is painted with the faces of multiple Markiplier memes from top to bottom.

For those unfamiliar with this indie horror, you are a prisoner tasked with exploring the bloody sea in a hokey submersible called the "Iron Lung." In a phenomenon called "Quiet Rapture," all habitable planets and stars have disappeared, leaving only baron moons, space stations, and asteroids. This ocean is on one of those moons. The only way to see what surrounds your ship is to take a picture and see what appears on the screen. The game recently drew attention when a comparison was made on Twitter between its premise and the situation on Titan's submersible. Game developer David Szymanski posted a tweet indicating that sales had increased during that time, stating, "It feels so wrong."

Markiplier has a history of shining a light on indie horror games, most notably Five Nights at Freddies, which he has consistently highlighted. His first FNAF play video now has over 119 million views, and the following related videos have garnered hundreds of millions more. The YouTuber was originally scheduled to make a cameo appearance in the FNAF film, but was unable to do so due to his appearance in Iron Lang's film. In a recent YouTube video, he explained, "Unfortunately, the 'Five Nights at Freddy's' movie and my movie 'Iron Lang' were shot at the exact same time," adding, "I don't expect them to compromise the quality of their project for me."

As part of Steam's Halloween sale (October 26 through November 2), Iron Lung will be 20% off. After the sale ends, the regular price will increase from $6 to $8. However, it has been announced that this is the only price increase, as "any increase over $8 is unfair. The company also said that all future updates and DLC will be free, and that a "large collection of behind-the-scenes photos" will be made available after the film is released.
