South Park jokes about "Baldur's Gate 3" and Larian immediately corrects him.

Far from the leviathan of television satire that it once was, it must still be a thrill to see South Park mention something you've created. It didn't take a bunch of rude cartoon boys to confirm that "Baldur's Gate 3" was a huge success, but the joke about "Baldur's Gate 3's" interdimensional save file in the latest "South Park" special is a testament to how wildly mainstream the D&D RPG has

But the fact that the game is now a D&D RPG is a wildly mainstream phenomenon.

But, like a strict DM who doesn't relegate rules to the window just because players are goofing off, "Baldur's Gate 3" developer Larian Studios was quick to object to the gag. Greeted with a wonderfully dry "Hello, @SouthPark," the studio pointed out that the joke misrepresented BG3's cross-save feature.

The studio pointed out that the special, called "South Park," misrepresents BG3's cross-save feature: the special, called "Joining the Panderverse," premiered today on Paramount+ and, as the trailer shows, is a "diverse It relates to an alternate South Park universe, influenced by the show's approach to "casting. All you need to know in this context is that it involves a multiverse, and that's where "Baldur's Gate 3" comes in.

In a scene posted on X, Cartman (played by Janecia Adams-Ginniard) from the alternate universe complains that she has to start a new game even though she has "already played 'Baldur's Gate 3' for about 50 hours.

"Doesn't the save game go back and forth between multiple universes?

Stan replies: "If savegames don't even cross between PC and PS5, why would they cross between multiple universes?

However, as Larian pointed out in his answer, save games for Baldur's Gate 3 can be shared between PC and PS5.

"While 'Baldur's Gate 3' saves cannot cross multiple world walls, we can confirm that they do indeed transfer between PC and PS5," the studio wrote.

It would have been a decent gag otherwise, but that's it. The bigger joke running this scene (the clip in the embedded post above is not all of BG3's cameos) is better, but we'll keep that under wraps.

No word on whether Larian plans to support cross-universe saves in the future, but I'll ask the next time I get in touch with the Director of Multiverse Communications. If you want to use the cross-platform save feature of "Baldur's Gate 3" in this universe, you can do so with a Larian account.
