For only $750, AMD's high-spec gaming notebook with rare Radeon GPUs that outperform RTX 4050 machines

Finding an all-AMD gaming laptop is rare indeed. It's even rarer to find one with the latest generation Red Team hardware for under $800, and Asus is selling this 16-inch TUF A16 machine at Best Buy for just $750.

The Radeon RX 7600S is a Navi 33 GPU with 1792 shaders and 28 compute units, but in raw performance, its average 3DMark Time Spy score is just below the RTX 4060 and confidently above the RTX 4050 RTX 4050. Moreover, it is much cheaper than the RTX 4050 gaming notebooks are currently priced.

Now, that may change later this month when the Black Friday gaming laptops start rolling in, but even if you find an RTX 4050 notebook at this price, I'd still recommend this Red Team machine, not only for the GPU, but also because the Ryzen 7 7735HS is a Zen 4 It's one of the highest quality silicon... [The Ryzen 7 7735HS is an 8-core, 16-thread chip that can boost up to 4.75GHz, and the multi-threaded performance is well worth the price. Cache is relatively light compared to the powerful Ryzen 7 7840U on the latest Framework AMD mainboards, and while it doesn't have the latest integrated graphics chip, you'll hardly notice the difference when a proper dedicated GPU does the pixel pushing.

At 16 inches, the Asus TUF A16 offers a high-resolution screen not typically found in this price range; the 1920 x 1200 panel gives it a 16:10 aspect ratio that is powerful on the desktop and slightly more so in gaming. It also features a 165 Hz refresh rate.

The bezel is relatively small and the keyboard has a numeric keypad. I don't use alt codes, so I don't know what all the fuss is about.

The 16GB of DDR5 memory is very standard and is the minimum required today. However, the 512GB SSD is disappointing and the only one I found on this machine, but with the current price of storage, even a budget laptop should get a 1TB drive. That said, getting a 1TB drive for under $50 during the Black Friday SSD sale would bring the cost of this laptop down to under $800.

Asus' TUF brand is certainly more cost-effective than ROG Strix and Zephyrus laptops, and certainly a bit cheaper. However, TUF machines are still well-made machines offering excellent specs at a low price. And at such a discount, they are hard to ignore.
