Nvidia Users Rejoice: Starfield DLSS Update to Begin Beta Testing on Steam Next Week

When Bethesda announced in June that it was partnering with AMD on Starfield, eager fans were not happy. Almost immediately there was speculation that the deal meant that Starfield would be released without support for Nvidia's DLSS technology, and for once the Internet was right.

Modders brought DLSS and frame generation to Starfield in a relatively short time, and Bethesda eventually promised official support.

We are finally about to see some real action on that front. Bethesda announced today that an update featuring "Nvidia DLSS support with frame generation, display, and HDR controls for supported systems" is headed to beta builds on Steam next week.

Details on how to access this build will probably be released when the beta rolls out, but it will probably work the usual way: right-click Starfield in the Steam library, select "Properties" and then the "Beta" tab Click on it and select the desired option from the "Join Beta" drop-down menu. After selecting a build, you will need to download an update of indeterminate size, after which you will have the opportunity to review what Bethesda has created and report any bugs.

No wonder Starfield's players are excited: with roughly three-quarters of PC gamers running Nvidia cards in their rigs, it seemed a puzzling decision to keep a technology that has become almost mandatory for such a large player base private. Sooner or later, it will be.

For those uncertain, Bethesda clarified that the DLSS update is only for Nvidia users; support for AMD's FSR3 technology is planned for a future update.
